Small cells/Indoor solutions Planning (3G/4G/5G)

By February 12, 2024 No Comments

Course Objectives

Although Small Cells existed in GSM and UMTS their primary tasks were quite simple: to offload traffic in hot-spot zones and solve the coverage holes issues. They were not coordinated with surrounding macro cells. With LTE, and concept of Heterogeneous Network (HetNet), things have changed. Small Cells can now achieve tight interworking with the rest of the network. Numerous enhancements in different 3GPP Releases brought more advanced functionalities for the small cells. In 5G, small cells are expected to handle even bigger amount of traffic and make new use cases possible.

This course offers a well-rounded presentation and discussion about the technology upgrades that have made small cells implementations so feasible. It is essential for people involved in RAN Planning and Design who wish to enhance their understanding on how small cells interwork with the rest of the network and become familiar with process of their implementation: from idea to realization.

Participants will have the opportunity to realize the importance of appropriate selection of small cell location, and implementation option. Difference between indoor and outdoor small cells will also be addressed.

The session concludes by discussing the 5G trends for Small Cells.
