Course Objectives

This course offers a well-rounded presentation and discussion about the Telecom and RAN technologies from the past to the future. It examines on a high level, the entire spectrum of cellular telecommunications and their evolving throughout the Generations from GSM to NR. It is essential for people without or with limited working background in Radio Access Networks who wish to enhance their competence on RAN technologies.

Participants will have the opportunity to see the characteristics of the different Wireless Generations from 2G/GSM to 5G/NR and to discover the names and functionalities of the Core nodes from CS Core to EPC. The course, following the introduction chapters, describes the role of the nodes and gateways and consolidates the understanding with the examination of traffic flows.

The session concludes by discussing the latest technology trends, like Open and Virtual RAN.
